Over 100 islands and small rocky outcroppings make up the Broken Group Islands, part of the Pacific Rim National Park. This is a kayaker’s paradise because of its sheltered, calm waters, sandbars, archways and abandoned Nuu-chah-nulth villages. The MV Frances Barkley transports kayakers to Sechart, an island on the edge of the Broken Group. Kayaking tours are offered out of many of the nearby communities.
Kennedy Lake is the largest body of fresh water on Vancouver Island and the 241 hectare park is a great place to spend a day swimming, fishing, kayaking, waterskiing or windsurfing. In the fall, visitors can watch sockeye spawn along the beach.

This park includes the lower Clayoquot River, Clayoquot Lake and the northwest slopes of Clayoquot Arm of Kennedy Lake. The Park houses old-growth forests, sand beaches, beautiful islets, a fresh water lake and First Nations cultural sites. It is an excellent place to boat, canoe, kayak, hike, fish and camp.
The park can be accessed from logging roads off Highway 4 or by boat from Kennedy Lake.

A seven-phase trail that skirts along the outside of Ucluelet that you can do in small portions or all at once. The Wild Pacific Trail meanders through ancient cedar forests and along rugged shoreline cliffs that overlook Barkley Sound, the Broken Group Islands and the open Pacific. During the Gray Whales’ migration, you can spot them less than 5 kilometres from the shore as well as seals, sea lions and otters.
Part of the Pacific Rim National Park region that encompasses the coastal and forested strip between Tofino and Ucluelet, Long Beach is an unbroken stretch of sand and surf where the wind, sea and sky intertwine. Radar Beach, Long Beach, Combers Beach and Wickaninnish Beach all run together for 25 kilometres to form the Long Beach Unit, but Long Beach itself is the longest of all of them at 10 kilometres. It is a stunning length of land and sea that attracts surfers, windsurfers, sea kayakers, swimmers and sunbathers from around the world.
The Ucluelet Aquarium gathers some of the stunning sea life from local waters - starfish, clams, sea anenomes, rock fish, jelly fish, giant Pacific octopuses - and releases them back into the wild at the end of each season. Its touch tanks ad interactive learning environment and inexpensive admission prices make it great for repeat family outings.
Perched on the sweeping Wickannish Beach, the interpretive centre is part museum and part information centre about the Pacific Rim National Park. It's a great place to learn more about the area before a forest hike along the Nuu-chah-nulth trail to Florencia Bay.
One of the most beautiful golf courses in BC and, it can be argued, in Canada. It is surrounded by the ancient rainforest of Clayoquot Sound to the north and Barkley Sound to the south. Its 9 hole championship course is know to be one of the most challenging courses on Vancouver Island, but don’t be dissuaded if you’re not a pro: there’s also a 18-hole mini golf course.

The year was 1972. The Vanlene was en route from Japan to Washington State with 300 Dodge Colts in its hull with no working radar or radio detection finders and a faulty depth finder. 200 miles off course, it ran aground on a reef in the Broken Groups Islands and sank. There was no loss of life.
Today, the wreck of the Vanlene is one of the many popular scuba diving sites in Barkley Sound.
Offers all levels of scuba diving instruction as well as individual and group diving tours throughout Clayoquot Sound.
